Baby Reborn - New Artist Division

BABY REBORN CATEGORY - NEW ARTIST DIVISION 

This division is designed for new reborn artists who are beginning to develop their skills in reborn doll creation. Entries in this division should reflect learning, growth, and developing technique in painting, rooting, and overall assembly.

This division encourages creativity and progress while allowing artists to gain experience in realism, detail work, and presentation standards.

This division is intended for artists who are early in their reborn journey and are still building confidence in their artistic techniques.

Artists with advanced or established reborn experience should enter the Established Artist Division. Silicone dolls, fantasy creations, and toddler dolls must be entered in their designated categories.

 

WHAT CAN BE ENTERED

• Entries must be created using vinyl reborn kits.
• Dolls may represent preemies or newborns (not toddlers).
• Any reborn kit may be used.

• Dolls may be painted in any skin tone.
• Hair may be rooted, painted, or penciled. (No bald babies)

• Dolls must wear a plain white onesie. NO belly plates, extra props, or accessories are allowed (except for basket support filling).
• Contestants must provide their own display materials.
• Entries must remain within the assigned display space provided by KDS.

The Kansas Doll Show (KDS) will provide woven baskets for display; contestants must supply materials to prop their doll. Basket dimensions: 14" long x 12.6" wide x 6" tall.

• Each basket must be covered with a plain white blanket, with the doll placed on top.
• The contestant number sticker must be clearly visible on the blanket.
• Each artist may enter one piece in this division.
• All work must be completed by the artist.
• Entries must remain anonymous during judging.

 

WHAT IS NOT ALLOWED

• NO belly plates, extra props, or accessories are allowed.

• Artists who qualify for the Established Artist Division.

• Silicone doll creations.

• Toddler dolls (must enter the Toddler Reborn category).

• Fantasy or artistic reborn dolls (must enter the Artistic Creations category).

 

HOW ENTRIES SHOULD BE PRESENTED

• Dolls must be securely posed and safely displayed within the assigned space.

• Hair may be rooted, penciled, or painted and should show developing technique appropriate for a new artist.

• Skin tones should show basic blending and beginning depth techniques.

• Dolls must wear a plain white onesie.

• The KDS basket must be covered with a plain white blanket, with the doll placed on top.

• Focus should be on learning, progress, and overall presentation.

• Presentation should be clean, stable, and neatly arranged.

 

HOW ENTRIES ARE JUDGED

Judges will evaluate the following:

• Basic painting technique and application
• Beginning realism in skin tones and shading
• Hair rooting or painting (developing skill level)
• Attention to basic detail work
• Assembly and overall craftsmanship
• Overall presentation
• Effort, improvement, and artistic growth

 

Judging is based on developing skill, technique improvement, craftsmanship, and presentation appropriate for a new artist's level.

  • Be sure to reserve your spot early before all contest slots are filled! Contestants must attend the Kansas Doll Show on both Saturday and Sunday. Winners will be announced during the Awards Banquet on Saturday. You DO NOT have to attend the Awards Banquet to receive your trophy if you win, but you must be at the show on Sunday to pick up your trophy or award.
